International Society for the History of East Asian Science Technology and Medicine(ISHEASTM)

The Society serves, represents, and speaks for scholars of the history of East Asian science, technology, and medicine worldwide. It was founded on 4 August 1990, on the occasion of the Sixth International Conference on the History of Science in China, held at the Needham Research Institute, Cambridge, England.

The Society's activities consist of:
(a)organizing a plenary conference every four years, beginning in 2011; the next conference (13th ICHSEA) will take place in Hefei, China, in 2011;
(b) seeking support for conferences and other activities from international organisations;
(c) finding means to aid scholars to enter the field;
(d) sponsoring publication of refereed research reports and monographs;
(e) publishing a journal, East Asian Science, Technology and Medicine (currently edited by Hans Ulrich Vogel, University of Tübingen).
